Solar
Catching rays: 11 GW and counting
Copper Consultancy has supported more grid-scale solar projects than any other consultancy. We’ve backed 11 GW of projects so far, across more than 30 sites, which will help reduce carbon emissions each year in the UK and support economic growth.
Every second, the sun delivers 10,000 times as much energy as our world uses
By harnessing a fraction of this, we can transform our energy landscape. And Copper is helping lead the charge.
With 20 developers and 11 GW in the pipeline, we’re helping unlock a fifth of the UK’s solar ambition for 2030 – equivalent to 11 average-sized UK gas-fired power stations – all powered by the sun.
But our work goes beyond capturing sunshine. Our projects have already unlocked millions of pounds’ worth of community benefits, including science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) initiatives and biodiversity programmes.
Heckington Fen Solar Park
Copper provided strategic communications, engagement and consultation support on the Heckington Fen Solar Park scheme, Ecotricity’s first Development Consent Order solar project, in Lincolnshire. The scheme will generate enough affordable green electricity to power 100,000 homes, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and remove more than 75,000 tonnes of harmful carbon dioxide emissions per year. The scheme was accepted for examination by the Planning Inspectorate in spring 2023 and secured consent at the beginning of 2025.
Strategic communications, engagement and consultationTillbridge Solar
Copper adopted a co-design approach for this project and delivered a comprehensive brand and communications campaign, working closely with key local, political and technical stakeholders. We published a workshop report that played a pivotal role in closing the feedback loop, which enabled refinement of the Tillbridge Solar scheme and supported the successful submission of the application to the Planning Inspectorate in April 2024. To boost attendance at consultation events, we implemented an effective social media campaign, including paid social ads, that targeted younger, often underrepresented, demographics. The campaign achieved a positive return on investment, delivering a low cost-per-click and a low cost per 1000 impressions, exceeding industry benchmarks.
Tillbridge Solar was consented in Autumn 2025.

Pathfinder Clean Energy’s (PACE)
Copper successfully secured multiple planning consents for PACE’s solar and battery energy storage projects across England. From April 2022 to July 2025, we minimised objections and mobilised crucial support by tailoring engagement strategies, briefing political stakeholders and fostering community buy-in. Even in the face of organised opposition, Copper achieved committee approvals, saving PACE significant time and appeal costs. Our strategic communications ensured project success, accelerating the roll-out of vital renewable energy infrastructure.
