Challenge
Intermoor, part of the Acteon offshore engineering group, has cutting-edge anchoring technologies that help to enable floating wind. But its operations are difficult and expensive to video because the action is largely below the waves, in near-complete darkness, and beneath the seabed. Intermoor wanted to show customers how SEPLA (suction embedded plate anchor) technology works and highlight its benefits.
Approach
Working with the client’s technical authorities, we created a photo-realistic animation. The client opted for this style over illustrative approaches to emphasise that SEPLA is an operational technology and not just a concept. The realism means that images from the animation can be used seamlessly in presentations with photographs of the equipment. We started with a script and storyboard, then created a pre-visualisation (low-resolution draft) to plan camera angles and timings, and align with the client before starting full production. This helped keep the project on time and within budget.
Value delivered
Since we completed the work in 2022, the original version has had more than 37,000 YouTube views. In 2026, we created a second version with updated branding and new scenes to reflect changes in the client’s business.
One of the technical advisors showed the animation to a family member who asked when they had captured video!
Videoing the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) used in the operation would have required the expense of a second ROV and may have missed steps. And it would not have captured operations below the seabed.
Our approach created a cost-effective, flexible way to explain the technology and its advantages.
