Challenge
RES appointed Copper to support public consultation on its resubmitted Killean Wind Farm proposal. The project faced community concerns owing to its perceived disruption and broader scepticism around wind energy. Copper needed to reset the narrative, build local understanding and foster more positive engagement with the scheme.
Approach
Copper developed and delivered a tailored communications and engagement strategy focused on:
- reframing the project within the context of Scotland’s net zero ambitions
- creating clear, accessible messaging to explain the need, benefits, and design of the scheme
- facilitating constructive dialogue with local communities and key stakeholders through well-planned consultation events and outreach activities.
The plan was adapted specifically for the sensitivities of a resubmission, recognising prior feedback and concerns.
Value delivered
- Supported a successful public consultation period, which was positively received by both RES and local stakeholders
- Enhanced project understanding and transparency, helping to mitigate opposition and shift perceptions
- Despite the project being postponed, Copper remains a trusted strategic partner to RES for its stakeholder engagement expertise and regional insight
