Challenge
The Hinkley Point C grid connection is a nationally significant energy project but faced strong local opposition during planning, posing risks to construction progress and National Grid’s reputation.
Approach
Copper has supported the project since 2009, providing:
- a consultation strategy for Development Consent Order (DCO) approval, followed by long- term communications through delivery
- ashift from reactive to proactive engagement, reframing the narrative around local and national benefits
- ongoing stakeholder management through timely updates, community monitoring and a 24/7 contact centre.
Value delivered
- Enabled DCO consent and smooth transition from planning to construction
- Built trusted relationships with 10,000+ households, local councils and community groups
- Helped National Grid maintain a positive public presence and minimise disruption – thereby laying the groundwork for a lasting project legacy
