Challenge
Shell scientists have demonstrated that electric vehicle (EV) charging speeds and environmental performance can be transformed through immersive thermal management. They wanted to convey this important message, and the rigorous research underpinning it, to EV manufacturers and other interested parties. The communication needed to be technically accurate, clearly written and designed and, as it was to be hosted online, compliant with European Union accessibility requirements.
Approach
Our writers and editors helped to prepare three white papers and graphics to support associated webpages. We worked with the scientists, suggesting minor changes to their text and ensuring editorial consistency. To break the content into easily digested sections, we wrote additional headers and selected pull quotes. Our designers then created illustrations to highlight some of the key points, and designed and laid out the papers. For any images, we also wrote the alternative text and extended descriptions needed to meet accessibility standards. Our editors proofread the work, which was then approved by technical, marketing, legal, brand and online standards teams.
Valued delivered
Shell issued three news releases, each backed by a technical white paper.
The first explores how immersive thermal management could unlock an EV revolution by enabling faster charging times to drive EV adoption for people without easy at-home, off-road charging. The second shows how thermal fluid cooling can be extended across the drivetrain for simplicity, operational economy and cost-efficiency. The third brings the themes together into “The Triple 10 Challenge” to achieve a 10-minute charging time, 10-km/kWh operating economy and a manufacturing carbon footprint of 10 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e).
Our client was delighted with the result: a suite of engaging assets, with clear messaging and illustrations, which are technically accurate and quickly received the necessary brand, online and other approvals.
