Challenge
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) required support on two projects.
- Discussion guide: To create a 20-page guide explaining the options for managing low-level radioactive and conventional waste more sustainably to return nuclear sites to a beneficial use.
- Five-year strategy document: To bring together content from over 20 technical experts into one easy-to-read document, using a single voice, for public consultation.
Both projects had to engage a wide range of audiences, from specialist stakeholders and policymakers to local communities, without compromising technical accuracy.
Specific challenges included:
- consolidating input from more than 20 subject matter experts into a single, coherent narrative
- making complex nuclear decommissioning topics accessible and engaging for non-specialists, whilst providing depth of content for specialist readers
- ensuring content was aligned with the NDA’s style and tone.
Approach
Our writers and editors worked with NDA experts to create clear, concise and technically accurate content. All of our writers have scientific or engineering backgrounds helping them to understand complex subjects, ensuring they ask the right questions and can explain concepts in simple terms. Working together with our creative designers, an engaging 20-page layout was designed, which was proofread, as well as the 50,000-word strategy, before publication.
Our work included:
- editing content from more than 20 subject-matter experts to produce a clear, easy-to-read strategy document for public consultation
- applying plain English principles whilst retaining technical accuracy to ensure the final version aligned with the NDA’s corporate style
- designing a discussion guide that engaged specialist and non-technical audiences
- proofreading services to eliminate errors
Value delivered
We helped the NDA to produce well-written, techincally accurate and engaging discussion guides and strategy documents, for a broad range of audiences.
