Challenge
To help secure a landmark £4 billion investment, for the development of the UK’s largest gigafactory at the Gravity site in Somerset, Copper was tasked with building a compelling regional narrative.
The objectives were to:
- position the South West as a key player in the national battery manufacturing and electrification strategy
- showcase the social and economic value of the Gravity site to investors and government
- secure broad regional and political support to strengthen the bid for site selection
- drive awareness and visibility of the South West’s innovation ecosystem in a competitive national context.
Approach
Copper developed and delivered the “Take Charge” campaign – a strategic communications programme focused on promoting the South West’s role in the UK’s electrification future.
This included:
- mapping the battery and clean energy ecosystem – including innovation hubs, academic institutions and infrastructure assets – to demonstrate the site’s unique regional value
- collaborating with key stakeholders such as the National Composites Centre, the University of Bristol, and Warwick Manufacturing Group
- developing multichannel content to share the campaign map via digital platforms and targeted media outreach
- supporting Agratas in delivering a community update to 24,000 households, strengthening local awareness and stakeholder alignment.
Value delivered
Copper’s campaign was instrumental in:
- securing site selection for the UK’s largest gigafactory at Gravity
- raising the profile of the South West as a centre of excellence in battery technology and clean growth
- driving political and public support across the region and beyond
- positioning Agratas and the Gravity site as a key part of the UK’s net zero industrial strategy.
