Challenge
The Coal Authority faced recurring issues in the planning and delivery of stakeholder engagement, because of:
- inconsistent engagement practices across teams and partners
- unclear sign-off and decision-making processes, causing confusion and delays
- difficulty aligning messaging with partner organisations across projects.
These issues impacted the quality and effectiveness of public engagement and created internal inefficiencies.
Approach
Copper was brought in to develop a strategic framework and improve engagement consistency across the organisation.
Our response included:
- delivering a diagnostic workshop to uncover gaps and understand existing practices
- creating a “Gold Standard Playbook” based on the OASIS model to guide project managers on best-in-class engagement planning
- running training workshops to onboard internal teams and embed the new approach
- producing internal communications materials to promote adoption and understanding across departments and partner organisations.
Value delivered
- Provided a clear and consistent framework for engagement planning and delivery
- Helped the Coal Authority align internal teams and external partners around a shared standard of engagement practice
- Created tools and training to embed long-term improvements, ensuring the new model can be used across future projects
- Strengthened the Coal Authority’s capacity to deliver transparent, efficient and effective stakeholder engagement
