Challenge
The Balfour Beatty Vinci (BBV) joint venture, delivering the main civil works for HS2 Area North, needed to strengthen the effectiveness and consistency of its community engagement function. BBV engaged Copper not only to provide communications and engagement support, but also to conduct a strategic review aimed at informing a broader change management process within the team.
Approach
Copper carried out a comprehensive, independent strategic review by:
- conducting more than 40 anonymous interviews across the BBV team, HS2 client team, enabling works contractors, and wider delivery partners
- gathering a wide range of internal and external perspectives to ensure impartiality and relevance
- analysing all responses to identify cross- cutting themes, challenges and opportunities
- translating these insights into a clear set of actionable recommendations for improvement.
Value delivered
- Generated trusted, anonymised insights that supported honest internal reflection and decision-making
- Informed a more integrated and aligned approach between contractor and client, enhancing integrated project team collaboration
- Delivered focused recommendations to improve the sustainability and efficiency of community engagement
- Helped BBV realign its engagement approach to meet or exceed contractual obligations and industry best practice
