Earlier, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rt Hon Rachel Reeves delivered the Spending Review, pledging to invest £113 billion in new capital spending.

Of most interest to the energy and infrastructure sectors:

  • Over £14 billion for the Sizewell C nuclear power station
  • £2.5 billion for modular nuclear reactors
  • Additional funding for carbon capture and storage, including support Acorn and Viking
  • £15 billion directed toward local transport projects, particularly in Labour’s northern and Midlands strongholds. Support for projects including Trams in Manchester, Birmingham and the Tyne and Wear Metro
  • Confirmation of £4.2 billion allocated towards building and maintaining local and national flood defences over three years
