Copper launches first-of-a-kind suite of AI-assisted tools to speed up project consenting and improve infrastructure communications

  • Communify Intelligence, a suite of tools for project teams, has been built using Copper’s 30 years of expertise across hundreds of major infrastructure projects.
  • Tools offer AI-assisted support, alongside Copper’s consultancy expertise, which enhances stakeholder intelligence, message testing and engagement preparation.
  • New functionalities also include tools which ensure faster and more accurate consultation reporting, verified by experienced communications professionals

Copper Consultancy, the strategic communications partner for developers and organisations in the UK and Ireland, has released a first-of-a-kind package of digital tools to deliver faster, more reliable, consenting of major projects.

The ‘Communify Intelligence’ offer merges Copper’s three decades of infrastructure communications and consenting expertise with AI-assisted tools which will help teams work smarter, faster and with greater confidence.

Rather than replacing the core functions of a trusted communications advisor to projects and organisations, the tools will give Copper’s experts greater time and insight with which to build bespoke engagement and communications programmes to help companies achieve their goals.

The newly announced suite is made up of six tools, with each designed to support projects across their entire lifecycle in a specific critical area of communications and engagement:

  • Communify Insight: Collecting real-time, verifiable intelligence on project stakeholders, as well as ward-level data on communities – ensuring tailored and effective engagement.
  • Communify Scenarios: Stress-testing communication approached using a digital persona informed by real-world behavioral data – allowing teams to simulate how stakeholders will respond to project messages.
  • Communify Interact: Helping project teams to respond to tricky questions and challenging stakeholders using simulated media and stakeholder personas, built on authentic journalist and stakeholder responses.
  • Communify CRM: Analysing stakeholder responses to identify emerging themes and issues in real time, incorporating text-recognition technology to understand hand-written feedback.
  • Communify Code and Communify Summarise: Processing stakeholder responses quickly and accurately to produce compliant consultation reporting, and saving hundreds to thousands of hours of personnel time.

Each proprietary tool combines AI-assisted efficiency with human decision-making. The outputs produced by each tool are verified by Copper’s team of experienced consultants, who will use their professional judgement and project expertise to feed insights from the tools into how a project’s communications and engagement is created.

Andrew Weaver, Director – Infrastructure and Major Projects, at Copper Consultancy said:

“The infrastructure sector is facing ever-increasing pressure to deliver high-quality projects at a faster pace. At Copper, we are committed to helping our clients deliver ambitious projects that lead to economic growth, energy security and improved connectivity for the UK.

“However, the context around delivering such projects has never been more polarised – meaning project teams have to work harder than ever to deliver effective communications and engagement which builds advocacy and drives consent.

“That’s why we have built Communify Intelligence. Simply put, these tools will help infrastructure projects be delivered quicker, by allowing organisations to make informed decisions with greater confidence and efficiency – reducing the impact of communications hurdles that cause delays and damage reputations.”

The Communify Code tool will specifically help drive down programme delays which can come from heightened consultation engagement from the public.

The tool allows for faster delivery by reducing time spent processing large volumes of responses, with AI-driven processing software ensuring improved consistency over the communication industry’s previous approaches of manual categorisation – a method prone to human error, especially when projects face tight deadlines on processing feedback.

Critically though, coding outputs will still be verified; results which fall below a preassigned confidence threshold are reviewed by a human analyst.

Communify Code was developed by Copper Consultancy from the ground-up, in partnership with BMG Research, an award-winning leader in social and market research. The end result combines Copper’s stakeholder knowledge and experience in the infrastructure sector with BMG’s rigorous approach to managing data and gathering insights.
