A new Travelodge hotel and retail space development on Mile End Road in Stepney, East London has been granted planning permission by London Borough of Tower Hamlets Council.
The new 88-bedroom hotel and retail space is expected to bring a significant boost to the local economy, helping to meet demand for affordable accommodation in the area, and will deliver 18 new full and part-time job opportunities for local people.
Copper supported developers Middlehaven Investment Limited and Travelodge through the planning process, helping to secure permission for a development on a challenging site, next to a Grade II-listed Georgian mansion, and within Stepney Green Conservation Area.
The project team worked closely with local stakeholders, including the Spitalfields Trust, and the owners of the listed mansion to create a design which was in-keeping with the character of the area, demonstrating that new development does not have to be at odds with heritage.
Through thorough and proactive engagement and consultation, and using an integrated communications strategy, Copper helped to secure support for the development from a range of key local businesses, residents and politicians.
